Clean Planet Energy USA and RePower South have today announced an agreement to combine their respective advanced plastics recycling technologies to multiple locations in the United States.

Less than 10% of plastics are currently recycled in the US, with most ending up in landfills and waterways. Clean Planet Energy USA and RePower South will deploy proprietary technologies to recover and recycle these hard-to-recycle plastics. The agreement allows for the co-location of Clean Planet ecoPlants alongside Repower South’s recycling and recovery facilities, a first in the United States, and a profound recycling advancement towards a healthier planet and true circular economy.

Clean Planet Energy

A Clean Planet ecoPlant is an advanced plastics recycling facility that transforms hard-to-recycle plastics into circular-naphtha to support the manufacture of new plastics without requiring a fossil feedstock. The initial ecoPlants, to be constructed under this agreement in South Carolina and Alabama, will upcycle 50,000 tons of plastics each year that would otherwise not be recycled, and add around 75 new jobs to each area.

RePower South

The Company launched their South Carolina and Alabama facilities in 2019 in collaboration with local communities to deliver the highest recovery recycling programs in the US. RePower South’s state of the art facilities improve community recycling and convert non-recyclable waste materials to a clean, low carbon fuel, reducing the local carbon footprint, creating quality green jobs, and advancing overall growth and environmental prosperity. The announcement today with Clean Planet Energy will enable the true circular recycling of plastic, keeping more plastics out of landfills and the ocean.
Brian Gilhuly, CEO of RePower South spoke of the opportunity this agreement creates for advanced plastics recycling.
